I’m Anitha Menon. Artist based in Rockhampton Queensland Australia.
I'm from India originally. I moved to England in 2003 and spent more than a decade there. Currently I live in Queensland, Australia.
I've always been enthusiastic about art especially painting. My passion for it remained untapped as I remained busy in homemaking for years and then decided to pursue a career in teaching for a while. My shift to Australia changed a lot of things for me with regards to my outlook on life and career. I realised my burning desire to express through art. I am a self-taught artist, still in the process of learning. I decided to become a full-time artist after I relocated to Australia in 2015. Since 2017, I have been attending various art workshops of reputed local artists. I have learnt that one never stops learning in art, it is a continuous process and I look forward to this wonderful journey.
My key influences in the paintings I have done so far have been my life experiences as a home maker outside India, the landscapes and beauty of Rockhampton as well as the culture and colours from my native country India.
As one of the finalists in the Bayton Award 2017, I got the opportunity to exhibit one of my conceptual works in Rockhampton Art Gallery.
In Dec 2017, I exhibited three of my paintings in Mill Gallery, Yeppoon.
In May 2018, art website ‘Contemporary Art Awards’ hosted an online solo exhibition of my new series of paintings - https://www.contemporaryartawards.com/solo-exhibition-anitha-menon
I also have an upcoming solo exhibition in Rockhampton Art Gallery’s Merilyn Luck Gallery later in the year - https://www.rockhamptonartgallery.com.au/Exhibitions/Upcoming-Exhibitions/Some-things-on-the-table-Still-lifes-by-Anitha-Menon
I paint using oil colours. Currently, I am concentrating on conceptual painting, closely associated with still life art. On a parallel line, I am also working on Indian art as I feel the need to portray the rich culture and ideologies of my native land.
